Kumbhalgarh Fort, situated amidst the high hills of Aravali in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, is one of the most grand and historical forts of Rajasthan. Maharana Kumbha had got the construction done

Kumbhalgarh Fort was built in the 15th century during the reign of Maharana Kumbha, the ruler of Mewar. According to historians, architect Mandan played an important role in the construction and expansion of the fort. The purpose of this fort, built in a strategic position on the Aravalli hills, was to protect the borders of Mewar and the royal family. The fort was also named after Maharana Kumbha. 36 kilometer long huge wall

The biggest feature of Kumbhalgarh is its huge ramparts. Its walls extend for about 36 kilometers. Its thickness is so high at many places that it is said in folklore that several horses could walk on it simultaneously. This strong wall built around the fort was very important for protection from enemies. The hill slopes, strong bastions and huge gates made it one of the safest forts of that era.

Birthplace of Maharana Pratap

The history of Kumbhalgarh is also deeply connected with Maharana Pratap. It is believed that Maharana Pratap was born on 9 May 1540 in Kumbhalgarh. Since childhood, he made the spirit of freedom and respect of Mewar the basis of his life. Later Maharana Pratap fought for a long time against the Mughal emperor Akbar. The battle of Haldighati and the subsequent conflict are considered important chapters in the history of Rajasthan.

Kumbhalgarh was not important only from military point of view. A large number of temples are also present in the fort premises. Many ancient temples to Hindu and Jain traditions can be seen here.
