Dr. Rakhshanda Hani has become the first woman to lead Mumbai’s Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce as In-Charge Principal. A senior Economics academic, she joined the institution in 2000 and became department head in 2015. Hani said her focus will include technology integration, AI education, global partnerships and student welfare initiatives at the college.
Mumbai: In a historic milestone for Mumbai’s higher education landscape, Dr. Rakhshanda Hani has officially assumed the position of In-Charge Principal at Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce, located on Bellasis Road. A senior academic and long-standing Head of the Economics Department, Dr. Hani becomes the first woman to lead the prestigious institution since its inception.
First Woman To Head Prestigious Institution Since Its Inception
Dr. Hani began her academic journey at Maharashtra College in 2000 as an Assistant Professor in the Economics Department, selected under the tenure of former principal Prof. Ishaq Havaldar. Supported by her family, she pursued advanced academic qualifications alongside her teaching duties, passing competitive examinations and obtaining her Ph.D. in Economics. Recognising her administrative capacity and academic merit, the college appointed her as Head of the Department of Economics in 2015.
