Tezzbuzz Desk – The Indian cricket team has started the Sri Lanka tour in a grand style. Team India defeated Sri Lanka in the first Test match played in Galle and took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Now his eyes are on the second test to be held in Colombo. If the Indian team captained by Shubman Gill wins this match, then not only will it win the Test series against Sri Lanka, but its position can also improve in the points table of the World Test Championship i.e. WTC. However, India will also need help from Australia to gain this advantage.
Despite the victory in the Galle Test, the Indian team remains at fifth position in the WTC points table. The reason for this is the excellent performance of Bangladesh. Bangladesh had made a big upset by winning the first Test of the series against Australia and due to this victory, it had strengthened its position in the WTC. This is the reason that even after India won the Galle Test, there was no immediate major change in the points table. Now the result of the Colombo Test and the McKay Test between Australia and Bangladesh has become very important for India. If the Indian team defeats Sri Lanka in Colombo and wins the series 2-0, then its point percentage i.e. PCT will increase. In the current situation, India's PCT is 53.33, which can reach 57.57 after winning the Colombo Test. This will strengthen India's hopes of moving ahead in the race for the WTC final.
But India's victory alone will not be enough. He also needs help from Australia. Actually, Bangladesh is currently above India with 66.67 PCT. If Australia beats Bangladesh in Mackay then Bangladesh's PCT will reduce to 55.55. On the other hand, India's PCT will be 57.57 after a win in Colombo. In such a situation, India can leave Bangladesh behind and reach fourth place in the WTC points table. Australia has also made a great start in the McKay Test. On the first day of the match, the entire Bangladesh team was all out for just 64 runs. After this, the Australian team also could not do anything special in batting and by the end of the day's play, they were able to score 165 runs after losing 8 wickets. However, he got a significant lead of 101 runs in the first innings. In such a situation, Australia's position seemed strong at the moment.
This match is also important for Bangladesh because after winning the first Test against Australia, it had strengthened its position in the WTC table. Now, if it is successful in winning the second test or at least drawing it, then it can remain ahead of India. Therefore, for the Indian team, the Colombo Test is not just a match to win the series against Sri Lanka. This can also prove to be an important step on the way to the WTC final. Along with improving its performance, India will also have to keep an eye on the results of other teams. If Team India wins in Colombo and Australia beats Bangladesh in Mackay, then India can get a big advantage in the WTC points table.
