Australia vs Bangladesh: Australia certainly bounced back after suffering a shock defeat against Bangladesh in the opening Test last week in Darwin.
The hosts registered a victory by an innings and 51 runs at Mackay thanks to a splendid bowling performance by Mitchell Starc. The veteran left-arm pacer picked up a 10-wicket match haul and completely decimated the Bangladeshi top-order across the two innings with the new ball. Meanwhile, in a low-scoring match, Cameron Green carried his form from the second innings in Darwin as he played a crucial 67-run knock.
AUS vs BAN: Mitchell Starc Runs Through Bangladesh's Batters
Mitchell Starc put up a show with the new ball against Bangladesh across two innings in Mackay. The left-arm pacer recorded his fifer in the first innings with his first 22 balls. He picked up the first five wickets and pushed the visitors on the back foot from the onset. Four of the six batters he dismissed in the first innings could not even score a single run before being dismissed, and as a result, the Bangla Tigers were bowled out for a paltry score of 64 runs.
Cameron Green, Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon Save Australia With Bat
Despite a turnaround with the ball in hand, troubles with the bat in hand continued for Australia. The Aussies lost their first three wickets with only 41 runs on the board, with Matt Renshaw and Marnus Labuschagne registering single-digit scores. Steve Smith, joined by Cameron Green, made sure that the Aussies took a lead. The duo shared a 77-run stand before a controversial LBW decision went against the former Aussie captain.
While Smith missed out on a half-century, Green did not let his form go into wast after scoring a century in the third innings of the first Test. The all-rounder scored 67 runs to take Australia's lead to 122 runs.
Just when the visitors would have thought that they would wrap up the innings quickly with only a single wicket remaining to be picked, Nathan Lyon put up a defiance with the bat. The off-spinner shared a 24-run stand and ended up unbeaten with a score of 32 to push the lead close to the 150-run mark.
Mitchell Starc Completes 10-Fer as Bangladesh Lose by an Innings
Bangladesh lost the match by an innings with Mitchell Starc picking up four wickets in the third innings to complete his 10-wicket match haul. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon picked up three wickets each. For the visitors, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim put up some fight with scores of 31 and 29*, respectively. However, with all the other batters being dismissed for single-digit scores, the Bangla Tigers lost by an innings and 51 runs.
