A 46-year-old man driving a stolen car has died after colliding with multiple vehicles in Melbourne, Australia. According to the police, the accused also stole another car and then collided head-on with the two vehicles. A woman was injured in the accident.

Melbourne: The incident that started with a stolen car in Melbourne, Australia turned into a multi-vehicle collision and the death of one person. According to police, a 46-year-old man was driving a stolen car and collided with multiple vehicles while traveling on the wrong side of the road. After this he tried to run away in another car, but a horrific accident happened again at a short distance.

Stolen car was driving in the wrong direction

According to police, the 46-year-old Melton man was driving a stolen white Subaru car around 9 pm on Friday night. He was traveling on the wrong side of the road near Punt Road in East Melbourne. During this time his car collided with two other vehicles.

Investigation has revealed that this Subaru car was stolen from Glen Iris area on August 20. Police also said that the car had a fake number plate. After the initial collision, the accused came out of the car and sat in another vehicle present at the spot.

Mustang was standing without driver

The second car which the accused took into his possession was a Ford Mustang. According to police, the driver of the Mustang was not present in the vehicle at the time of the accident, so the person was not injured in the initial incident.

The accused tried to leave from there with the Mustang. Police say that he drove the vehicle in a very uncontrolled manner and went towards Barasi Way in East Melbourne. During this period the situation on the road became more serious.

Head-on collision with two other vehicles

According to police, the Mustang hit two other vehicles head-on on Barasi Way. These included a Range Rover and a Toyota Camry. The collision was so strong that the person driving the Mustang was thrown out of the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services arrived. The place of the accident was not far from Melbourne Cricket Ground i.e. MCG. Police and emergency services activities continued in the area for a long time after the incident.

Woman driving Range Rover injured

A 20-year-old woman driving a Range Rover was injured in the accident. According to Ambulance Victoria, the woman suffered injuries to her upper and lower body. He was taken to hospital for treatment, where his condition was reported to be stable.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident was not injured. Police secured the incident site and started investigation and Barasi Way was closed for traffic.

Eyewitness narrated the horror of the accident

Hearing the sound of the accident, local resident Jake Homutowski ran towards the spot. He told that his house is about 200 meters away from the incident site. He said that due to MCG being in the area, people often hear the noise of spectators, sirens and other noises, but the sound of this accident was unusually loud.

According to the eyewitness, the sound of the collision was so loud that for a few moments they thought that the accident had happened just outside their house. After reaching the spot, he saw many vehicles in badly damaged condition.

Referring to the road’s posted speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour, he said he was shocked to see such serious damage. According to him, emergency services reached the spot within minutes of the incident.

Police started detailed investigation

The police are now investigating the circumstances of the entire incident. This includes the stolen Subaru car, the fake number plate, the initial collision and the accused’s subsequent attempt to leave the scene in the Mustang.

The officials have also started investigation into the circumstances under which the accused took possession of two vehicles consecutively and in which direction he was traveling before the accident. Police are collecting information from eyewitnesses to clarify the causes of the accident and the sequence of events.

The police investigated the spot by keeping Barasi Way closed. The vehicles damaged in the accident and other evidence present on the road have also been made part of the investigation.

Police asked for dashcam footage

Police have appealed to the people who witnessed the accident to come forward. According to officials, if anyone has dashcam recording, mobile video or other vital information of the incident, it can help in the investigation.
