At its Independence day event this year, Mahindra unveiled the Scorpio Lifestyler, its long-awaited lifestyle pickup truck in a near-production form. The market launch will commence in April 2027 and the vehicle has already attracted a lot of attention. It stands out with its design and proportions. Mahindra’s Executive Vice President and Chief Design Officer Pratap Bose has now confirmed that some design elements of the Lifestyler will make it to the next-generation Scorpio-N and ‘other members of the Scorpio family’.

Bose was talking to Autocar Professional when he made the confirmation. According to him, the company is opening up a whole family of vehicles using the Scorpio name. He states that there will be ‘some reflection’ of the Lifestyler’s design in the new Scorpio-N and future Scorpio products. He, however, did not mention as to which of the styling cues will be carried over.

The Scorpio Lifestyler is a major departure from the current Scorpio-N in terms of exterior styling. From the design chief’s words, we can deduce that Mahindra is seeing the Lifestyler as the beginning of a broader design language for the Scorpio family.

However, it may not be the case that the next-generation Scorpio-N will receive Lifestyler-like front end or become a plain SUV version of it. The company is likely to adapt selected elements- as signalled by the ‘ certain reflection’ remark. The large grille section remains a strong possibility.

Likewise, more design elements may be carried over to the Scorpio-N and other SUVs belonging to the family. The core idea will be to enhance the visual presence and family identity of these vehicles.

Let’s now talk specifically about the Scorpio-N. It received a small feature update in August this year. There was, however, no noticeable change in its design. This shows the possibility of a more comprehensive update in the future- one that could come with major restyling. Mahindra seems to have bought themselves time to debut the new family design language on the Scorpio-N.

The overall design could evolve into something more modern and sharper. The SUV could get the slimmer LED headlamps and new DRLs from the Lifestyler. As mentioned above, the grille section remains a strong possibility. The bumper will also be redesigned to go well with these changes. However, it remains to be seen if its final design will resemble that of the truck’s bumper.

Like the Lifestyler, the next-generation Scorpio-N could also get vertically positioned fog and cornering lamps. There could also be exposed tow hooks and a large skid plate on offer. Mahindra will likely try to blend the Lifestyler’s cues into the SUV’s design without unsettling the (familiar) visual identity or road presence of the Scorpio-N.

The Lifestyler’s influence is also likely to be felt inside the future Scorpio-N. The interior styling, especially the dashboard design, could evolve significantly. The pickup truck gets a large portrait-oriented infotainment screen, a new steering wheel design and a redesigned centre console. Some, if not all of these, could be introduced on the new Scorpio-N.

The most recent update gave the SUV a 12.3-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The dimensions of the portrait-styled touchscreen remain undisclosed. However, it looks much larger than the one on the current SUV. Many would appreciate having it on the Scorpio-N. Another possible addition is of additional safety and ADAS features.

However, Mahindra has not officially confirmed that any of these will be used in the Scorpio-N. Bose’s comments only confirm that the pickup will influence future Scorpio products. We don’t know the extent or nature of this influence.

The Scorpio Lifestyler will launch in India by April 2027, and will have a starting ex-showroom price of under Rs 19.79 lakh. This could give it a significant price advantage over lifestyle pickups such as the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu V-Cross. Mahindra hasn’t commented on the possible powertrains. However, we expect it to come with the same 2.0L turbocharged petrol and 2.2L turbocharged diesel engines as the outgoing Scorpio-N. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be offered along with 4×4 technology, depending on variants.
