Delhi : Six people were injured in a road accident that took place in ITO area on Sunday night. The special thing about the accident was that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Anil Jha and BJP MLA Abhay Patil were traveling in the same Innova SUV. The collision between Innova and Swift car took place at around 9:30 pm near the PWD office in front of the old police headquarters. After the accident, the injured were taken to Loknayak Jaiprakash Hospital. According to police, everyone has suffered minor injuries and their condition is stable. Both the MLAs are also admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Car debris scattered on the road after the collision

The accident was so severe that the front part of Swift was completely damaged. The front part of Innova was also badly damaged. After the collision, the broken parts of the vehicles spread on the road, which affected the traffic system for some time. On receiving the information, IP Estate police station reached the spot. Later the fire brigade team was also called. Traffic was normalized after removing the damaged vehicles from the road.

According to the police, how did the accident happen?

According to the police, 32-year-old Ashutosh Pandey was coming towards ITO from Laxmi Nagar in his Swift. His car hit the divider first. After this, she crossed the railing and reached the other lane and collided with the Innova coming from the front. Apart from Ashutosh, his wife and two minor children were also present in Swift. On the other hand, the Innova was carrying AAP MLA from Kirari Anil Jha, BJP MLA from Belagavi South in Karnataka Abhay Patil and others.

The driver told a different story of the accident

According to media reports, he turned right from the red light of ITO and at that time the speed of his vehicle was about 20 kilometers per hour. He claims that a vehicle coming at high speed from behind hit his car. He told that the airbags of the car opened during the collision, due to which he did not suffer much injury. He was busy controlling himself after the accident, so he could not see who were in the other vehicle.

Who are the two MLAs injured in the accident?

Anil Jha is AAP MLA from Kirari assembly seat. In the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, he defeated BJP's Bajrang Shukla by a margin of 21,871 votes. Abhay Patil is a BJP MLA from Belagavi South Assembly seat in Karnataka. In 2023, he had won this seat for the fourth consecutive time. Even before this, he had been a member of the Legislative Assembly for different tenures. At present, the police is investigating the entire matter and the condition of both the vehicles and the sequence of events are being examined to find out the actual cause of the accident.
