Crystal Palace have turned down a £50 million bid from Liverpool for Ismaila Sarr, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool had been working on a double swoop for Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola and Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh as they aim to reshape the wing options available to new head coach Andoni Iraola. The Merseyside club are still in discussions for Barcola, who remains their leading target, but their pursuit of Minteh has now ended.

Liverpool saw offers worth £50m and £60m for Minteh rejected by Brighton. The Reds then withdrew from negotiations after Brighton put an £80m price tag on the Gambian winger.

Liverpool subsequently switched their focus to Sarr, who has regularly troubled them in the past with goals for Watford and Crystal Palace.

Reports in Turkey had highlighted Liverpool’s interest in the Senegal international before Romano said: “The move follows the Minteh deal being called off because of Brighton’s demands.

“#LFC sent a proposal worth around £50m for the Senegal winger, who is keen on the move.

“Crystal Palace have already rejected two bids from Galatasaray.”

Romano later added this update: “Crystal Palace reject £50m bid from Liverpool for Ismaila Sarr.

“#CPFC are insisting on their plan to keep the winger after rejecting two bids from Galatasaray and now one from Liverpool as well.”

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have “checked on a deal for Sarr”, but the transfer “looks unlikely” because Palace are determined to keep him.

The Mail also dispute Romano’s claim that Liverpool have “made an offer” for the 28-year-old.

According to our colleagues at TEAMtalk, Manchester United are keeping tabs on Sarr, while Galatasaray are continuing their efforts to reach an agreement for him.

Liverpool may now revive talks with PSG over fellow right winger Ibrahim Mbaye.

They have already agreed a five-year contract with Mbaye, who is pushing to leave PSG in search of regular game time.

However, Liverpool had previously been discouraged by PSG’s demand for a huge €200m (£171m) package for both Mbaye and Barcola.

If Liverpool can reduce Mbaye’s valuation, reported to be in the region of £50-60m, they could move for the 18-year-old and finally bring their search for a new right winger to an end.

Fortunately for Liverpool, they appear to be making better progress in negotiations for Barcola, as they are moving closer to an agreement with PSG.
