Lahore. Amid rising violence in Pakistan and voices of separatism, Maulana Fazlur Rahman reminded Army Chief Asim Munir of the 1971 defeat and surrender to India. He raised questions on the situation in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and PoK and warned that if the bloodshed continues for a long time, the geographical situation of the country may change.

Pakistan's prominent religious and political leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has once again targeted Army Chief Asim Munir. Comparing the current situation of Pakistan with the era of 1971, he raised questions on the claims of army's strength. The fear of disintegration of Pakistan and change in its geographical boundaries was clearly visible in his statement.

Fazlur Rehman said that he believes that the army and its leadership have strength, but history cannot be forgotten. Referring to December 1971, he said that a day before surrendering arms to India, General Yahya Khan had addressed the people of Pakistan and said that the army will fight from every street and from the fields to the mountains. But the very next day the Pakistani army laid down its arms.

Maulana of Pakistan said, “We have heard these big words even at that time.” Fazlur Rehman questioned that when the people of Pakistan are going through so many difficulties then why are they being continuously put into trouble.

Mention of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Maulana also expressed concern over the situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that there is a war like situation in these areas and blood is flowing continuously. He also mentioned the long-running protest in Rawalakot of PoK. He said that people have been protesting there for about three months, but they are not being talked to. Fazlur Rehman warned that in such a situation the elements demanding secession may get a chance to become stronger.

'What is the purpose, to break the country?

Fazlur Rehman raised the question what is the purpose of this situation. He said that when there is bleeding in an area for a long time, it can also be a sign of further geographical changes. Referring to the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan since 1979, he said that blood has been flowing in this entire region for about 45-46 years. He said that Pakistan should make the public clear about its intentions.

This statement of Fazlur Rehman has come at a time when security and political challenges remain in many areas of Pakistan. His statement regarding 1971 and geographical changes has created a new political debate in front of Pakistan's army and government.
