Prabath Jayasuriya: High-voltage drama was seen in the last moments on the second day of the second Test match played between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo. There was an argument between the Sri Lankan players and the umpires regarding the on-field umpires continuing the game despite the dim light. Amidst this tension, Sri Lanka suffered a big blow in the last over of the day and the second day’s play was ended with the wicket of nightwatchman Prabhat Jayasuriya.
After being out, Jayasuriya became so angry with the umpire’s decision that while leaving the field, he hit his bat on the boundary cushion. After this, even after reaching the dressing room, he vented his anger and threw the gloves.
Uproar over umpire’s decision
This incident started just before the second over during Sri Lanka’s innings. When Prabhat Jayasuriya came on the field to bat after the dismissal of Lahiru Udara. When Prabhat was coming to the field, the darkness had increased significantly. Both the umpires present on the field checked the light with a light meter. The umpires ruled that if India bowled only to the spinners then the game could continue.
After this, captain Shubman Gill handed the ball to Manav Suthar. The Sri Lankan batsmen were not at all happy with the umpires’ decision to continue the game and expressed their displeasure on the field itself.

Prabhat Jayasuriya, who came to bat as a nightwatchman for Sri Lanka, was expected to save his wicket till the end of the day’s play, but he failed to do so. Manav Suthar gave Jayasuriya out LBW on the last ball of the day. Although Jayasuriya challenged the umpire’s decision and took DRS, the review also did not help him and he returned to the pavilion after scoring only 2 runs in 7 balls.
