Hong Kong’s Travel Industry Authority (TIA) has suspended a jewelry and jade shop in Kowloon Bay from receiving inbound tour groups for 30 days after an investigation found it failed to prevent a tour guide from coercing tourists into making purchases.
The shop, which is operated by Kaiser Jewellery International Limited at Harbourside HQ on Lam Chak Street, will be barred from receiving tour groups from Aug. 26 to Sept. 24, The Standard newspaper reported.
The TIA said its investigation into a February incident found that the shop failed to stop a tour guide from pressuring mainland visitors into making purchases and did not take reasonable measures to prevent unauthorized personnel from promoting products inside the store, the South China Morning Post reported.

In addition to the 30-day suspension, the shop’s directors, managers and frontline staff must complete designated training courses within one month.
The disciplinary action followed joint operations by the TIA and the Immigration Department in late July at tourist hotspots in Tsim Sha Tsui and the West Kowloon Cultural District.
Two women were arrested during the operations for allegedly working illegally as tour guides.
The tourism authority also urged tourists who experience coercion or unfair treatment to contact the authority or report the matter to police.
