Monsoon Havoc: Monsoon is being seen in full force across the country. Due to continuous heavy rains, rivers are in spate and life has become completely disrupted in many states. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Kerala and many other states of the country.

Uttar Pradesh: Ghats of Kashi drowned, place of Aarti changed
The water level of Ganga and Yamuna is rising rapidly in Uttar Pradesh. The situation in Varanasi is quite worrying. Due to the water of Ganga rising above the banks, the famous 84 ghats of Kashi have lost contact with each other. The Ganga Aarti being held at the historic Dashashwamedh Ghat is being performed on the terrace or on the upper stairs due to water logging. Due to lack of space for cremation at Manikarnika Ghat, cremation has come to the fore on rooftops.

Due to security reasons, the administration has completely banned the operation of boats in Ganga. Rivers in Prayagraj, Ghazipur and Ballia are also flowing near the danger mark. The Meteorological Department has advised to be alert regarding heavy rain in more than 20 districts of the state.

Bihar: Ring dam breaks in Begusarai, 7 thousand people affected
The situation remains serious due to flood water entering the low-lying areas of Bihar. More than 7,000 people have been affected by the crack of about 30 feet in the Zamindari and Ring Dam in Bachhwara of Begusarai. Water has entered many villages and crops grown in hundreds of acres have been destroyed.

The rivers in Patna, Bhagalpur, Khagaria and Munger have also taken a terrible form. Water Resources Department teams are busy repairing the embankments, while the affected people are being evacuated to safe places.

South India and hilly states: Red alert and fear of landslides
The situation is worsening due to torrential rains in Kerala and coastal Karnataka. Red and Orange Alerts have been issued in view of the danger of landslides and waterlogging after heavy rains in many districts of Kerala. The local administration has put NDRF and disaster management teams on high alert.

On the other hand, people have been instructed to exercise caution amid warnings of cloudburst and landslides in the hilly areas of Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
Advice for travelers and locals

Unless absolutely necessary, avoid traveling to areas affected by heavy rains and floods. Stay away from rivers and streams: Residents of coastal and low-lying areas should not go near swollen rivers. In case of emergency, take the instructions of the local administration and relief teams seriously.
