Digital Desk Lucknow: Australia’s experienced fast bowler Mitchell Starc has secured the number-1 position in the ICC Test bowlers’ rankings for the first time. His excellent performance in the recent Test series against Bangladesh saw him achieve this feat, leaving behind Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

Bumrah reached the top of the rankings for Test bowlers for the first time in February 2024. Remained number-1 most of the time in the last two years. However, his absence from India’s ongoing World Test Championship series against Sri Lanka and Starc’s strong performance against Bangladesh has changed the entire equation of the rankings.

Starc created history by taking 10 wickets against Bangladesh

Starc took 10 wickets in the second test match against Bangladesh. He was also named Player of the Series for his excellent performance in the series. On the basis of this performance, 36-year-old Starc moved up two places in the rankings. Let us tell you that for the first time in his career he became the number-1 Test bowler.

Starc has been in the top-10 for a long time in his 15-year test career. At the end of last year, after his brilliant bowling in the Ashes series against England, he also made it to the top-3, but till now he was not successful in reaching the top position.

Bumrah second, Henry third

After Starc reached the top, Jasprit Bumrah lost one place and reached the second position. New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry has come to third place.

Australian captain Pat Cummins, who took six wickets against Bangladesh, has moved up one place to fourth position. Australia’s experienced spinner Nathan Lyon has also jumped two places to reach 10th position.

Robinson and Tong also got big benefits

Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue, who played important roles in England’s win against Pakistan at Headingley, have also gained in the rankings. Both the bowlers together had taken 16 wickets in this match.

Robinson has moved up 15 places to No. 11, while Tung has jumped 16 places to No. 17.

Harry Brook number-1 among test batsmen

There is no change in the positions of the top four players in the rankings for Test batsmen. England’s Harry Brook remains at first position and his compatriot Joe Root remains at second position. Australia’s Steve Smith is at third place and Travis Head is at fourth place.

India’s Rishabh Pant has made the biggest jump in the top-10. After scoring a quick half-century in the second innings of the Galle Test against Sri Lanka, Pant has moved up six places to joint seventh position.

KL Rahul and Green also benefit

Outside the top-10, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has climbed nine places to reach number 21. Sri Lankan captain Dhananjay de Silva has moved up to joint 22nd position, Pakistan’s Abdullah Shafiq has moved up to joint 27th position and India’s KL Rahul has moved up five places to reach 30th position.

Ravindra Jadeja number-1 among all-rounders

India’s experienced player Ravindra Jadeja continues to top the ranking of Test all-rounders. Pat Cummins has moved up one place to seventh, Cameron Green has moved up to joint 17th and Ollie Robinson has moved up five places to 23rd.
