A very interesting and unexpected development was seen after the Union Cabinet meeting. As soon as the cabinet meeting held on August 19 ended, a sealed envelope was handed over to all the Union Ministers present there. During the meeting, the ministers had no idea what was in the envelope, but when it was opened, the complete 'report card' of the digital activism of the ministers was present inside.

Actually, the central government is working on a special strategy to increase the reach of its ministers on social media platforms and to establish direct communication with the general public. During the period from May 1 to August 15 (three and a half months), the activities of the ministers on all four major social media platforms—X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn—were analyzed in depth and the same details were handed over to them in a sealed envelope.

Deep analysis of social media performance

This report card given to the ministers did not just contain simple data, but many subtle nuances were evaluated. It was recorded how many posts the minister makes on an average daily, how much user engagement he gets on each of his posts and how many total likes he got. Apart from this, a detailed account was also taken of which countries the people following were from and how the public reacted. This review by Digital Reach also included comparative data from social media responses of opposition leaders.

Senior minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal could not attend this important meeting. He was on a visit to Singapore along with Union Minister of State Jitin Prasad leading a high-level delegation to strengthen India-Singapore economic ties.

NEET controversy and strategy to cultivate 'Gen G' youth

In political circles, this report card is being linked to recent developments. Recently, 'Gen Z' i.e. today's young generation had staged a strong protest across the country regarding the irregularities in the NEET exam issue and the paper leak issue. Due to the circumstances arising after this controversy, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign from the post.

After these protests, the BJP leadership has given top priority to the strategy of connecting directly with the youth through digital media. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself is trying to connect with the youth by posting 'selfie-style' videos on Instagram.

PM Modi has been continuously advising party leaders, Chief Ministers and Ministers to use social media not just for government propaganda, but to establish direct communication with the general public and the youth. Social media presence has also been made a major parameter in the evaluation of Chief Ministers of NDA ruled states.

In the coming time, the government's entire focus will be on taking its public welfare schemes and policies to every home through social media. In this sequence, all the ministers have been instructed to make their digital presence more effective.
