Yamaha Motor India has launched the new YZF-R2 in the Indian market. Its starting ex-showroom price has been kept at Rs 2.30 lakh, while the price of the top-spec R2 M variant goes up to Rs 2.53 lakh. According to the company, delivery of the bike will start from September 2026. The YZF-R2 is placed alongside the R15 in the company's R-Series lineup and will primarily compete with the KTM RC200.

Yamaha YZF-R2: Engine and chassis

The new Yamaha YZF-R2 has a 204cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This engine generates maximum power of 26.1bhp and peak torque of 19.1Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Slip and assist clutch is available as standard in the bike, while quickshifter is also provided as standard in Mid and R2 M variants.

A newly designed chassis has been used in the bike. Yamaha says its chassis weight has been reduced by about 2 kg compared to the R15, while maintaining strength. A lighter chassis can help improve the handling and riding dynamics of the bike.

Yamaha YZF-R2: Design

In terms of design, the YZF-R2 clearly bears the hallmarks of Yamaha's R-Series. The bike has been given an aggressive looking full fairing, in which layered design can be seen. Slim LED headlights and DRLs are provided in the front, which give a sporty look to the bike.

Apart from this, the bike has been given a sculpted fuel tank and sharp tail section. Many elements in its design seem inspired by Yamaha R15 and R3.

YZF-R2 has been introduced in five color options. These include Metallic Black, Dark Bluish Grey, Matte White Pearl, Racing Blue and Metallic Grey. However, the Metallic Gray color will be available only in the top-spec variant.

Yamaha YZF-R2: Features

Talking about the features, the bike has been given different riding modes like Street, Rain, Sport and Custom. The top-spec R2 M variant gets additional features like TFT instrument screen, smart key and adjustable lever.

With the new YZF-R2, Yamaha has tried to strengthen its presence in the 200cc segment. With sporty design, lightweight chassis, new engine and many modern features, this bike will give direct competition to KTM RC200.
