Colombo. Sonal Dinusha's second century of the match and third century of the series helped Sri Lanka draw the second and final cricket test against India despite playing follow-on but the visiting team won the series 1-0. Despite suffering from stiffness in his leg, Dinusha showed tremendous courage and faced 264 balls during his unbeaten innings of 133 runs and deprived India of victory. He hit eight more fours and two sixes in his innings. Following on from yesterday's unbeaten seven runs, Dinusha used the sweep shot brilliantly and proved the Indian bowlers completely ineffective on the final day.

Sonal Dinusha scored centuries in both innings

When Sri Lanka, under the leadership of Dinusha, had scored 429 runs for nine wickets in 154 overs in the second innings, both the teams agreed to draw the match. At this time Sri Lanka had a lead of 216 runs. Sri Lanka had lost the sixth wicket in the form of Niroshan Dickwella in the 65th over, after which Dinusha destroyed India's hopes of winning by batting more than 89 overs with the tail batsmen.

Dinusha and Keshara Nuwanta (46 runs, 150 balls) faced 246 balls during the 112-run partnership for the seventh wicket. After this, this left-handed batsman played 170 balls with Lahiru Kumara (12 runs, 90 balls) during the 47-run partnership for the ninth wicket, due to which India's real hope of achieving victory was also dashed.

Sri Lanka did a miracle on the fifth day

For India, Ravindra Jadeja, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammad Siraj and Saransh Jain took one wicket each. Earlier, India had declared its first innings at 503 runs for nine wickets, in response to which Sri Lankan team was reduced to 290 runs despite Dinusha's 103 runs and was forced to follow. India won the first test in Galle by 165 runs.

The match was interesting in this way

Sri Lanka started the day at 229 runs for six wickets and a lead of just 16 runs. The Indian team was hopeful that they would wrap up the remaining Sri Lankan batsmen soon but Dinusha and Nuvantha dashed the hopes of the visiting team. Both of them added 100 runs in the morning session and kept the Indian bowlers deprived of success.

Indian bowlers once again had to struggle to take wickets against lower order batsmen. The fast bowlers tried to adopt the strategy of bowling short balls and on the leg side but they looked ineffective throughout the session. Spinners Manav Suthar, Saransh Jain and Ravindra Jadeja got turn and bounce on a few occasions but failed to wrap up the Sri Lankan innings. Even when Sri Lanka scored 290 runs in the first innings, its last three wickets together batted 45 overs and added 117 runs.

Dinusha, who scored 103 runs in the first innings, proved to be the biggest headache for the Indian team in the current series. He troubled the Indian bowlers a lot by scoring three centuries and one half-century in four innings. He also scored 100 and 84 runs in the first test. Twenty-five-year-old Dinusha completed his half-century in 99 balls with one run off Jadeja.

Suthar broke the partnership after lunch

However, at the beginning of the session after lunch, Suthar broke this partnership by taking the wicket of Nuvanta. Suthar's ball took the edge of Nuvanta's bat and Dhruv Jurel took the catch at slip. After this, Jadeja also got Prabhat Jayasuriya (02) caught by Jurel in the slips. But after this the Indian team had to face another combative Sri Lankan batsman in the form of Lahiru Kumara. Dinusha and Kumara did not allow the Indian bowlers to achieve success for more than 28 overs.

Jadeja finally broke the partnership by getting Kumara caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal at short leg. Earlier, Dinusha completed his third century of the current series in 196 balls by playing the very first ball of the last session of Mohammed Siraj at midwicket for two runs. Captain Gill, apart from bowling himself in search of the last wicket, also handed the ball to Jaiswal and Jurel but did not get success.
