A chess tournament was played under the Chess Plus (Championing Excellence in Sports Skills) initiative at National Bal Bhawan on Thursday. This tournament is being organized jointly by All India Chess Federation (AICF) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (JNVs). While sharing the pictures of the chess tournament played today, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Education, Jayant Chaudhary gave this information.

He said that CHESS+ was launched at Rashtriya Bal Bhawan with Navodaya Vidyalaya and Chess Federation. Giving information, the Minister said that this tournament will bring structured chess coaching, certified mentors and competition in 30 Jawahar Navodaya Schools of Delhi-NCR. Jayant Choudhary said on this occasion, 'At present there are a total of 99 Grandmasters in India. The next one might be in some Navodaya school today!'

India can get 200 grandmasters

At the same time, All India Chess Federation President Nitin Narang said that somewhere in these classrooms of Navodaya School, there may be a Grandmaster who can take India from 99 to 200 Grandmasters.

Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary said about the CHESS+ tournament being played by the children of Navodaya School, 'Four grandmasters. Hundreds of students. A memorable afternoon. I am thankful to Grandmasters Srinath Narayanan, Arvind Chidambaram, Vaibhav, Abhijeet Kunte and Nitin Narang for showing our students what dedication to the game looks like up close.

He informed that chess playing material is being provided to all 30 schools through CSR of government company Vidyanjali. Jayant Chaudhary said that every child should get a chess board to think.

Federation President Nitin Narang said, 'That's what CHESS+ is all about, taking Chess to more and more children, opening doors for them and giving new talent a chance to find their way.
