The Chinese Embassy in Nepal issued a statement on social media. There they wrote, 'The disaster started from the border region of Nepal. On the morning of August 26, there was an earthquake or glacier collapse in Nepal. This results in mudslides. That is why there have been deaths and disappearances in Nepal and China along the Girong-Rasuwagadhi border region. Beijing says there is no point in blaming. Cooperation saves lives.

Meanwhile, the USGS initially reported that a magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck near the Nepal-China border, about 66 kilometers north of Kathmandu, early Wednesday morning. But they later revised their assessment to say that the shaking was not caused by an earthquake. It is caused by glacier collapse. The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.2 on the Richter scale. The agency said it came to this conclusion by analyzing data from nearby seismometers, seismic waves and satellite imagery. The agency also said that glacier collapses cause huge amounts of ice and rock to slide down and cause flash floods. Due to this the settlements down the valley are affected. Climatologists have also accepted the glacier collapse as the reason behind this Harpa volcano.
