Anaya Bangar sparked buzz with an Instagram Story reading, “Community Where You At?” amid the controversy over Cricket Australia’s decision to provide her a pathway to competitive women’s cricket. Her post came after South Africa all-rounder Marizanne Kapp called the decision “absolutely ridiculous,” criticising CA’s stance on transgender participation in women’s cricket.

Anaya Bangar has responded to the growing debate surrounding her return to competitive women’s cricket after Cricket Australia (CA) cleared her to play community and Premier Cricket in Australia, with a potential pathway to elite cricket from March 2027, subject to eligibility requirements.

Amid the controversy, Bangar took to Instagram and shared a brief but pointed story that read, “Community Where You At?” Her post came shortly after South Africa all-rounder Marizanne Kapp publicly criticised Cricket Australia’s decision, calling it “absolutely ridiculous” and arguing against transgender athletes competing in women’s cricket.

Bangar’s Instagram post appears to highlight the immediate opportunity available to her under Cricket Australia’s policy. She has been cleared to participate in community cricket across Australian states and territories, while her eligibility for elite cricket will be assessed under the governing body’s transgender and gender-diverse players policy.

The development represents a major step in Bangar’s cricket comeback. The daughter of former India cricketer and coach Sanjay Bangar, she had previously spoken about her desire to return to competitive cricket after undergoing gender-affirming surgery. She is now targeting a return to elite women’s cricket in Australia, with the Women’s Big Bash League also among her ambitions.
