Kia’s new flagship SUV ‘Sorento’ is entering the Indian market on September 4 with a 7-seater capacity, powerful hybrid technology, All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and a host of features.
Kia is all set to further strengthen its foothold in the premium segment in India, with the new Sorento officially going on sale on September 4, 2026. The three-row SUV will slot in above the Seltos and will be Kia’s first flagship ICE offering with a hybrid powertrain in the country. The Sorento will be available in both hybrid and diesel variants and has already started production at Kia’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh.

The hybrid version will use a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine, an electric motor, a battery pack and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Kia has confirmed all-wheel drive (AWD) for the India-spec hybrid. The global version of this powertrain produces 227 HP of power and 349 Nm of torque and the same performance is expected in India. The diesel version is expected to have a 2.2-litre turbocharged engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Sorento measures 4,815 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 2,815 mm in wheelbase. These dimensions make the car significantly larger than the Seltos and give Kia a premium three-row SUV in the domestic market. Its 7-seater cabin sets it apart from the Cairns, while the exterior looks follow Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy.
At the front, the tall bonnet, vertical design lights, large grille, square bodywork, bold wheel arches, flush-style door handles and vertical rear lamps are some of the prominent features of this car. The interior features a dual-screen dashboard with two 12.3-inch displays. Apart from this, Kia will offer a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, ventilated second-row seats, powered seat adjustment, ambient lighting, wireless charging and a premium Bose audio system.

High-end variants are likely to get second-row captain’s seats. The Sorento will introduce Kia’s AI Assistant to the Indian market as part of the Connected infotainment package, which will include Kia Connect services and other connected functions. The SUV will have Level 2 ADAS suite with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and highway driving assistance.
A 360-degree camera, multiple airbags, electronic stability control and other active and passive safety systems will be available in the SUV as part of the equipment package. The Sorento’s pricing may be favorably affected by local production, and it is expected to start at around Rs 35 lakh ex-showroom. In the Indian market, it will compete against established SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian, MG Magister and Volkswagen Tyron, as well as the recently launched MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV (PHEV).
