Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday claimed that what she described as the BJP’s “excesses” against her party would ultimately help the Trinamool Congress return to power in West Bengal.

Addressing a gathering in the state, Banerjee said people would reject what she alleged was the BJP’s politics of intimidation and pressure.

“Very soon Trinamool Congress will return to power in West Bengal,” she said, according to the report.

Her remarks came amid an intensifying political battle between the TMC and BJP in the state.

The two parties have been engaged in a bitter confrontation over law and order, alleged political violence, corruption allegations and the functioning of government agencies.

Banerjee accused the BJP of targeting Trinamool leaders and workers and alleged that the party was attempting to create fear among voters.

She argued that such actions would have the opposite effect and strengthen public sympathy for the TMC.

The BJP has consistently rejected such allegations and has accused the TMC government of political violence and of failing to ensure a level playing field for opposition parties.

With West Bengal’s next electoral battle approaching, both parties have stepped up their attacks on each other.

The TMC is seeking to retain its political dominance in the state, while the BJP is attempting to expand its electoral base and challenge the Trinamool’s hold on Bengal.

Banerjee’s latest remarks indicate that the TMC intends to make alleged BJP excesses and political intimidation a central theme of its campaign.

The BJP is expected to counter the charge by highlighting its own allegations against the Trinamool government.

The escalating rhetoric reflects the increasingly polarised political environment in West Bengal ahead of the next electoral contest.
