Women’s Asia Cup 2026: India’s women’s cricket team has made a great start in the Asia Cup. Performing brilliantly in her very first match, she defeated Thailand women’s team by 94 runs. Thailand won the toss and decided to bowl first, but the Indian batsmen played aggressively from the beginning. India scored 159 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Shefali Verma played the biggest innings for the team. He scored 64 runs in only 36 balls, which included 8 fours and 3 sixes.
India also had a good start. Smriti Mandhana scored 19 runs in just 10 balls and hit four fours. After this Shefali Verma and Pratika Rawal took the innings forward. Pratika scored 22 runs in 18 balls. However, after this India lost some quick wickets. Harmanpreet Kaur could score only 5 runs, while Bharti Fulmali scored 13 runs. Richa Ghosh was out without opening the account and Deepti Sharma contributed 5 runs. Despite this, India gave a target of 159 runs.
Thailand’s batting faltered badly
Chasing the target of 159 runs, the Thai team looked under complete pressure in front of the Indian bowlers. Wicketkeeper-batsman Nannapat Koncharoenkai scored the highest 41 runs. He hit 5 fours in his innings of 48 balls, but he did not get enough support from the other end. The rest of Thailand’s batsmen were seen struggling against the Indian bowlers and the entire team was all out for just 65 runs in 16.1 overs and lost the match.
Deepti and Nandani wreaked havoc
Deepti Sharma and Nandini Sharma performed brilliantly in India’s bowling. Both the bowlers took three wickets each. Deepti took three wickets without giving any runs in 1.1 overs, while Nandini took three wickets giving 18 runs in 4 overs. Shri Charani also took two wickets for 10 runs. Kranti Gaur got one wicket and Prema Rawat bowled economically giving only 11 runs in four overs. With this victory, India has earned 2 points in the points table.
