Saharanpur: A sensational case of fake currency worth crores of rupees being found in the currency chest of Punjab National Bank in Saharanpur district of UP has come to light. During the audit, fake currency worth about Rs 7.40 crore has been found in the currency chest of Sophia Market Branch located at Ghantaghar.

After the matter came to light, serious questions have been raised regarding the banking system and maintenance of currency. Meanwhile, PNB Chief Manager Circle Officer Saharanpur Nisha Singh said that three bank employees have been suspended in this matter. On the complaint of the bank's nodal officer Arun Kumar Choubey, three people have been named in the case to fake notes in Sadar Bazaar police station. These include Divisional Office Senior Manager Ravi Kumar, Currency Chest Manager Sushil Sharma and Amit Kumar, Manager of Khera Bazaar Currency Chest located in Jagadhri, Haryana.
Now the police is investigating how such a large amount of fake currency reached the currency chest. Cash from different bank branches is deposited in the currency chest. In such a situation, the police will check the cash records from the concerned branches to the currency chest.
It will also be ascertained whether the fake notes were deposited together or reached the currency chest at different times. Along with collecting information about the cash depositing employees and the process, the police can also scrutinize CCTV footage. In another case to the same currency chest, a shortfall of Rs 4.36 lakh was found in the cash sent to the headquarters.
A case has been registered against house keeper Vishal Kumar in this case. According to SP City Vyom Bindal, separate FIRs have been registered in both the cases and a total of four people have been named. Police are investigating on the basis of bank documents, cash records and CCTV footage. Only after the investigation is completed, the complete picture behind the fake currency worth crores and shortage of cash will be clear.
