17Janmashtami 2026: On the festival of Janmashtami, Laddu Gopal, the child form of Lord Krishna, is worshiped with full devotion. On this day, many types of preparations are made in homes, from decorating tableaux to making new clothes and jewelery for Kanha. Many types of dishes including butter and sugar candy are offered in the puja, but Coriander Panjiri is considered to have special significance. Even after breaking the fast of Janmashtami, many people take the Prasad of Coriander Panjiri. This time, if you want to make pure and tasty Prasad at home instead of buying Panjiri from the market, then it does not require too many ingredients. Delicious Coriander Panjiri can be easily prepared with coriander, sugar candy, desi ghee and dry fruits.
These 4 things are needed to make Coriander Panjiri
- 1 cup coriander powder or coarsely ground coriander
- 3/4 cup sugar candy, desi khand or powdered sugar
- 3 to 4 tablespoons desi ghee
- 1 cup chopped nuts, which can include makhana, cashews, almonds and grated coconut
A little cardamom can also be added to enhance the taste and aroma. Use basil leaves to decorate the bhog.
First of all prepare dry fruits by roasting them well.
To make Coriander Panjiri, first heat about 2 spoons of desi ghee in a pan. Add chopped cashews and almonds and fry until light golden. After this add makhana and grated coconut and fry for about 1 to 2 minutes. When the dry fruits start giving off a slight aroma and become crunchy, take them out in a plate and keep them aside.
Take special care while roasting coriander
Now add remaining desi ghee in the same pan and add coriander powder or coarsely ground coriander in it. Fry it on low or medium flame while stirring continuously for about 4 to 5 minutes. When coriander is roasted properly, a fragrant aroma will start coming from it. Keep in mind that do not fry coriander on very high flame, because if it burns then the taste of Panjiri may become bitter. Once the coriander is roasted well, turn off the gas and let it cool completely. After this add ground sugar candy, sugar or sugar in it. Also add pre-roasted dry fruits to it. Add a pinch of cardamom powder on top and mix all the ingredients well. Keep in mind that do not add sugar or sugar candy in hot coriander, because due to heat it can melt and the grainy taste of Panjiri can get spoiled.
Offer Coriander Panjiri to Laddu Gopal like this
Your delicious and aromatic Coriander Panjiri is ready. Take it out in a bhog bowl and place a basil leaf on top and offer the laddu to Gopal. After Janmashtami puja, it can be distributed among family members as Prasad. Coriander Panjiri is also traditionally used to eat after fasting. However, the rules of fasting may differ in different families and traditions, so choose the ingredients according to your beliefs.
