Bodies of 23 people have been recovered from a house buried under the debris of flood of Bhotekoshi river in Betravati village located in Vidur municipality of Nuwakot, Nepal.

According to a police officer involved in the relief and rescue operation, during the search on Tuesday, 21 bodies were recovered from a room of the house, while 2 bodies were recovered from outside.

Last Wednesday, the massive flood in Trishuli river passing through Bhotekoshi had engulfed this three-storey house.

Police estimate that after the flood, some people tried to save their lives by going three floors higher but they got caught in the flood. The recovered bodies have not been identified yet. Police suspect that they may be pilgrims.

Nuwakot SP Vipin Regmi said, “Bodies of 21 people have been found in the same room and two outside. One body looks like that of a foreign national. Bags have also been found along with the bodies. They could possibly be travelers going to Gosainkund.”

According to SP Regmi, the bodies were found in the room located just below the roof. The body of a woman was found holding a small girl in her lap. There is a suspicion that both may be mother and daughter.

He said that it appears that people gathered at one place after running to escape the flood and got trapped. Out of 23 bodies taken out from the house, 8 have been taken to Trishuli Hospital. The remaining bodies are still kept on the roof of the house.
