Delhi Government has made a major amendment in the Delhi Solar Policy to promote solar energy in the capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta told in the press conference that the Cabinet has approved the revised solar energy policy. The government aims to promote solar energy as well as make Delhi's homes centers of energy production.

Free solar plant on electricity consumption up to 400 units

According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, PM Surya Ghar Yojana was not getting the expected momentum in Delhi. After reviewing the reasons for this, many practical changes have been made in the policy.

Now solar plants of up to 3 kilowatt capacity will be installed completely free of cost at the homes of domestic consumers who consume up to 400 units of electricity every month.

Incentive will be given at the time of installation

Under the new policy, the incentive amount for five years on installation of solar panels will now be given in advance at the time of installation. With this, consumers will not have to bear the burden of initial cost. Apart from this, the vendor installing the solar plant will also provide free maintenance for the next five years.

Application fee waived up to 10 kilowatts

Delhi government has decided not to charge any application fee for domestic solar connections up to 10 kW. The existing electricity subsidy of consumers will also continue. Additional income can also be earned by selling the excess electricity generated from the solar plant to the grid through net metering.

Target of 2.27 lakh solar panels by March 2027

According to the government, currently solar panels are installed on 10,073 rooftops in Delhi and about 228 MW of solar energy is being produced from them. It has been targeted to install 500 MW by the end of the current financial year and 2.27 lakh solar panels by March 2027.

Energy Minister Ashish Sood termed the decision as historic and said that its objective is not only to provide free electricity but also to make every household energy productive. This will reduce pressure on power infrastructure and also promote environmental protection.
