A disappointing start for Indian shuttlers at the 2026 China Masters Super 750, as both Unnati Hooda and the men’s doubles pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun exited in the first round on Tuesday.
Unnati went down in straight games to higher-ranked Kim Ga-eun of South Korea, 10-21, 18-21. Ranked World No. 25, Unnati was the underdog against World No. 12 Kim.
She made a poor start, managing just 10 points in the opening game. In the second game, the 18-year-old showed greater fight, staying competitive and levelling the scores at 18-18.
However, she was unable to sustain the momentum and conceded the final three points, losing in straight games.
Meanwhile, the men’s doubles pair of Hariharan and Arjun were forced to retire midway through the first game after Arjun felt discomfort.
The duo were trailing 8-11 at the mid-game interval against China’s former World Championships medallists Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi when they conceded the match due to injury.
First-round action continues on Wednesday, with six more Indian matches featuring elite players such as Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth.
In doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, along with Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto, will also be in action. Meanwhile, Devika Sihag and Tanvi Sharma will compete in the women’s singles.
