Desk: Instagram has changed its rules regarding profiles of people created with AI. The platform is now going to rename the existing AI Creator label to AI-generated profiles. Profiles that show a person created by AI and do not provide any information about the same may have their recommendations banned. That means, if AI label is not put on AI content, Instagram can stop the reach of the content. However, the reach of creators who apply the correct AI label to their profiles will not be reduced.

Instagram said in a blog post that it is changing the existing AI Creator label to AI-generated profiles label. The platform started testing this label earlier this year. Creators who already used the old label can view the new label to confirm it or remove it if it no longer applies. The new label will be for those profiles in which a person created from AI appears.

If a profile contains a person created by AI and the required information is not provided, then that profile may not be eligible for Instagram's recommendation. Affected creators will be notified and will be able to check their account status to see if a reach restriction has been placed on their profile. If a profile loses recommendation eligibility, creators can make it eligible for recommendation again by adding an AI-generated profile label.

Instagram has clarified that creators will not be given a reach penalty if they correctly disclose their AI-generated profiles. If a creator feels that their profile has been banned unfairly, they can also appeal through Account Status. Once the appeal is accepted, the profile and its content will become eligible for recommendation again. However, simply using AI tools in content creation will not necessarily result in a profile-level AI label.

According to Instagram, this change has been made after the feedback of those users who saw such profiles which at first glance appeared to be of real people, but later it was found that the person shown in them was created by AI. The platform says that the new labeling system will help users better understand who or what is really behind the profiles visible on Instagram.
