Yulla Kanda Krishna Temple: A unique tradition of this temple situated in the heights of the Himalayas is still alive. Every year on the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, a special ritual of Kinnauri Topi is performed here. It is considered to be the highest Shri Krishna temple in the world.

Information about ancient temple
Yulla Kanda Krishna Temple is located in the Rora Valley of Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated amidst a tranquil alpine lake at an altitude of approximately 12,778 feet (3,895 m) above sea level.

Tradition of 'swimming cap'
According to local belief, the Pandavas spent time in this area during their exile. The most interesting tradition associated with this temple is the 'Swimming Topi' ritual, which is celebrated every year on the festival of Janmashtami in August-September.

Some people consider Yulla Kanda as the gate to heaven. The festival of Janmashtami is very famous here. On this day the Kinnauri cap is turned upside down and thrown into the lake. It is believed that if the cap reaches across the lake without sinking, it is considered a good sign. At the same time, sinking of the cap is considered inauspicious. This is a local belief, for which there is no scientific evidence.

The main base village of this trek is Yulla Khas.

Road route: You can take National Highway-5 (NH-5) from Shimla and reach Yulla Khas village via Rampur and Tapri (distance approximately 230-240 km).

Start of the trek: The vehicle route ends at Yulla Khas village and the foot trek begins from here.
