India's star shuttler Lakshya Sen has been out of the first round of the China Masters badminton tournament. Lakshya recently failed to progress beyond the second round at the BWF World Championships. He was expected to make a comeback at the China Masters but he lost in the first round. He was defeated by Canada's Victor Lai 21-14, 21-7 in 38 minutes.

World Championship 2021 bronze medalist Lakshya made continuous mistakes, taking advantage of which world number-9 player Lai easily won the match. Lai won her second bronze medal at the World Championships last month. This was Lakshya's third defeat at the hands of a Canadian player. His only win against Lai was in the All England Championship in March this year.

Lakshya surrendered in the second game

The last few weeks have been difficult for Lakshya. He was also out early in the World Championship played in New Delhi. He had to struggle against Lai from the beginning and made several mistakes, of which the Canadian player took full advantage. In the first game, Lakshya took an early lead of 4-0 but Lai soon regained control. They did not allow Lakshya to gain momentum and easily won the first game.

Lakshya was out of form at any point in the second game and his frustrations grew as Lai continued to apply pressure and force him into mistakes. Lakshya trailed 4-11 at the interval and failed to make a comeback, allowing the Canadians to wrap up the match without any trouble.

Kidamba Srikanth reached the second round

In another men's singles match, India's experienced player Srikanth defeated Chi Yu Jen of Taiwan 21-16 21-15 and made it to the second round. India's mixed doubles pair Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also entered the next round by defeating Thailand's Tonnakorn Saeheng and Tonicha Saeheng 21-8 21-9.
