The political controversy has intensified after the name of Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha was removed from the voter list of Punjab. Chadha's name is included in the list of absentee, transferred, deceased and duplicate (ASDD) voters prepared under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Election Commission. The reason for removal has been recorded against his name as transfer.
Raising questions on this, Chadha called it the work of Aam Aadmi Party. He said that his voter ID card is registered in Mohali and he does not understand why he was permanently registered as a transfer voter. However, at present this is only a draft voter list, it is not the final list yet and there may be changes in it.
How many names were removed in Punjab?
According to the data, about 20.66 lakh names have been removed compared to the pre-SIR voter list in Punjab. This is approximately 9.7 percent of the total voters. Chadha is also included among those voters. Raghav Chadha, in his social media post, refused to consider this action as merely a technical or other mistake. He directly called it an act of political revenge.

Raghav Chadha posted and wrote, “This does not seem to be a mere mistake. This is clearly a case of political vendetta. Ever since I left the corrupt Aam Aadmi Party, its leadership has been burning with anger. It has deployed the Punjab Police and the administrative machinery of the Punjab Government against those like us who did not remain silent. Other MPs who left the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the BJP have also been targeted by the Punjab Government. This misclassification is the latest episode of that political vendetta.”
When did you leave AAP and join BJP?
Raghav Chadha, along with six other Rajya Sabha MPs, left the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in April. Explaining the reason for leaving the party, Chadha had alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party has gone far away from its core principles, values and ethics.
Will Rajya Sabha membership be affected?
Despite the removal of name from the voter list of Punjab, it will not have any direct impact on Raghav Chadha's status as a Rajya Sabha member. For Rajya Sabha elections, it was necessary for the candidate to be registered as a voter in the concerned state. However, after the amendment in the Representation of the People Act in 2003, this requirement was abolished.
