Automobile Desk: A big news has come for the off-road driving enthusiasts and those who like big vehicles. Japanese automobile manufacturer Mitsubishi has introduced its iconic SUV 'Pajero' in a new avatar after a long wait of almost five years. The company has made the global debut of its 5th-Generation Mitsubishi Pajero, which this time has been designed as an even more premium, muscular and powerful 7-seater off-road SUV.

This vehicle will be launched in the international market first from Thailand. After this the company will launch it in big automobile markets like Japan and Australia. According to available information, this new Pajero will be available for sale in showrooms of Japan and Australia by the end of March 2027. However, the company has not yet given any official confirmation regarding its arrival in the Indian market. If Mitsubishi brings it to India in future, it will directly compete with the Toyota Fortuner which is ruling the segment.

In terms of look and design, the new Pajero has a very modern and aggressive styling instead of the old classic retro look. Its design is very similar to Mitsubishi's new SUV 'Xforce' and 'Destinator'. The vehicle has a large grille at the front, muscular wheel arches and strong lower body cladding, which gives it a rough-and-tough road presence. Its flat roofline and large windows provide a feeling of more headroom inside the cabin and excellent visibility.

The cabin of the vehicle has been made very luxurious and spacious. It has a 3-row seating layout, in which 7 people can sit easily. For convenience, the second row seats have been given the facility to slide back and forth by 150 mm, due to which the third row passengers get ample legroom and the boot space can also be increased as per the need.

The interior has modern features like premium leather seats, soft-touch dashboard, tri-zone climate control, rear sunshade and heated seats for the second row. To keep the cabin quiet, it uses double-glazed side glass and acoustic windscreen.

Talking about technology, two large 14.3-inch touchscreen displays are provided in the top trim and 12.3-inch screens in other variants. For entertainment, there is a 12-speaker Yamaha premium sound system and USB charging ports in all three rows. Along with a rotary dial to control the off-roading mode and 4-wheel-drive system, there are also physical buttons for essential features.

In terms of powertrain, the new Pajero gets a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, which generates maximum power of 204hp and peak torque of 480Nm. It is mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission. To make the SUV stronger and safer, high-tensile steel has been used extensively in its ladder-frame platform, making its body tougher than ever in terms of shock-absorption and off-road capability.
