Delhi:The Indian cricket team is now ready for its next international series. Team India has to play a three-match T20 series against Afghanistan from September 13. The first match of the series will be held at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
India's record in international cricket against Afghanistan has been excellent and the team has not lost a single match so far. However, the Afghanistan team cannot be taken lightly. He has a lot of experience in T20 cricket and recently both the teams have played against each other in different formats.
India has not selected any young or second-rate team for this series, rather a team equipped with strong players will enter the field. The team captained by Shreyas Iyer has many big names. Despite this, the defeats against Ireland and England in the recent T20 series have definitely raised some questions.
Before the series against Afghanistan, Team India has three big problems, which will need to be addressed.
1. Bad form of Abhishek Sharma
The biggest concern for India is the form of Abhishek Sharma. After good performance in IPL 2026, it was expected that he would continue the same rhythm in international cricket, but it did not happen.
In the 10 innings of his last 10 T20 International matches, only 191 runs have been scored from Abhishek's bat. During this period his average has been 19.10. In the T20 series against Zimbabwe, he scored only 11 runs and became the victim of Blessing Muzarabani in all three matches.
Now Vaibhav Suryavanshi is gradually strengthening his place in the team and Sanju Samson has also returned. In such a situation, the Afghanistan series is going to be very important for Abhishek.
The good thing is that Abhishek is doing well in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup. In such a situation, he would like to regain his old rhythm against Afghanistan. But he will face the challenge of bowlers like Fazalhaq Farooqui and Mujeeb Ur Rehman, who have the ability to trouble the batsmen with the new ball in the powerplay.
2. Concern about injured players
The Indian team is already struggling with injury problems and the series against Afghanistan may also be affected by this.
Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is already out of this series. Nitish Reddy and Harshit Rana will have to prove their fitness, only then they will be able to join the team.
Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar are also suffering from injury. Both players were injured during the ODI series against England and after that could not play in the Test series against Sri Lanka.
At present Arshdeep Singh is a fully fit main fast bowler in the team. In such a situation, if Bumrah or Harshit Rana is not fit on time, then Team India may have to call another fast bowler at the last moment.
The fitness of these players is also important because they play a big role in the balance of the team.
3. Lack of finisher in death overs
After the success of T20 World Cup 2026, one weakness of India was not much discussed, but the team's batting in the death overs is definitely a matter of concern.
In the absence of Hardik Pandya, India currently does not have any expert finisher who can score fast runs in the last overs and take the team to a big score. Rinku Singh has also been dropped from the team once again after the Zimbabwe tour.
Shivam Dubey has certainly played good innings in the lower order on some occasions, but the team needs consistent big finishes from him. Tilak Verma has also done a good job in this role, but batting lower down the order is not his natural place.
All-rounders like Akshar Patel and Washington Sundar definitely give depth to the team in batting, but it is not easy to expect them to play a role like Hardik in the death overs.
This is the reason why in the series against Afghanistan, India will have to pay special attention to its batting in the last overs.
