Monsoon is currently in full swing across the country and heavy rainfall has been predicted by the Meteorological Department due to the activity of the Western Disturbance and the low-pressure area formed in North and Central India. As many as 17 states of the country, including Delhi-NCR, have a strong possibility of heavy rain today, regarding which a special alert has been issued by the system.
Dark clouds have covered Delhi and Noida and surrounding areas since morning today and the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain. The Delhi-NCR sector is likely to experience very heavy rain during the next four hours with gusty winds of 70 to 80 km per hour. Due to incessant rains, several low-lying areas of Delhi have faced serious waterlogging problem, due to which the common people have to face heavy traffic and traffic jams. However, due to this heavy rain, the people have also got a great relief from the prolonged humidity and heat, as the temperature has dropped significantly.
According to the Meteorological Department, a well-marked low-pressure area is active over north-east Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, while a monsoon trough extends over north-east Rajasthan to Manipur and south Gujarat to Jharkhand. Under the influence of these strong systems, the next 24 hours are going to be very important in 17 states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Haryana, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana and Assam.
There is a high risk of landslides and cloudburst events following heavy rains in the mountainous areas. In view of this threat, tourists have been strongly appealed not to visit the hilly areas and the famous Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand has also been suspended for now as part of security. Apart from this, thundershowers are forecast in eastern India, due to which farmers have also been advised to take adequate precautions to protect their crops and fields
