The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned Bengal and India Under-19 team cricketer Rohit Yadav for two years in the case of alleged age fraud. This action has taken place just before the home series between India Under-19 and Australia Under-19 starting from September 18. Rohit was selected in the Indian team for this series, but now he will not be able to participate in the matches.

According to the report, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) found several discrepancies in Rohit’s age records while updating the players’ documents. Rohit was allegedly found to have three different birth certificates, which recorded the years of birth as 2007, 2009 and 2010. Apart from this, his year of birth was also changed in the Aadhar card. In 2017, the year of birth was changed to 2006 and in 2021, it was changed to 2009. Mention of Howrah from Uttar Pradesh and later Liluah was also found in his address.

Had a great performance on Sri Lanka tour
Rohit recently went on a tour of Sri Lanka with the India Under-19 team. In the two-match Youth Test series played in July, he was jointly among the bowlers taking the highest wickets. After being out in the first match, Rohit performed brilliantly in the second match and took a total of six wickets in both the innings. His brilliant bowling of four wickets helped India bowl out Sri Lanka Under-19 for 260 runs. India won this match by 211 runs.

62 players banned from registration
After Rohit’s case, Indian selectors can include another player in his place in the team for the upcoming series against Australia. CAB has declared a total of 62 players, including Rohit, ineligible for registration or transfer for any tournament in the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons. Discrepancies have been found in the documents and age records of these players. The names of India Under-19 World Cup winner Ravi Kumar and left-arm spin all-rounder Vishal Bhati have also been mentioned in this list.
