Indian Super League: The schedule of ISL 2026-27 season (ISL 2026-27) has finally been announced. It was informed on Saturday that the new season will start from October 10. The competition will run till May 2027. In other words, football lovers will watch the fight of the best clubs of the country for about eight months.
The home-away format is returning
The ISL is returning to the old home-away format in the new season. Each team will play in their own field and opponent’s field. The team that tops the points table at the end of the league phase will win the shield and will be deemed as the official champions of the ISL. Besides, the top teams will also get a chance to play in the Asian competition.
The playoffs are returning, there will be 163 matches
Along with the league, the playoff phase is returning again. The top six teams in the points table will fight to win the ISL Cup. In all, a total of 163 matches will be organized in the eight-month competition. As a result, along with the league, the fight in the last phase is going to be the center of attraction again.
13-team battle, Churchill Brothers FC pending approval
A total of 13 teams will participate in the round-robin home-away format in the new season. However, Churchill Brothers FC’s participation is still subject to regulatory approval. Participating teams include Bengaluru FC, Chennai FC, Churchill Brothers FC, East Bengal FC, FC Goa, Inter Kashi FC, Kerala Blasters FC, Mohun Bagan Super Giants, Mumbai City FC, North East United FC, Odisha FC, Punjab FC and Sporting Club Delhi.
Diamond Harbor could not hold on to the ISL
Diamond Harbor FC qualified for the ISL by winning the Indian Football League for the 2025-26 season. But they could not fulfill the condition of depositing the required administrative fee for the 2026-27 season. As a result, the club did not accept the promoted slot. As a result, their position in the new season of the ISL has become a special situation.
Diamond Harbor will not get points
In line with the promotion and relegation policy, Diamond Harbor FC will not be allowed to earn points this season and the team will be placed at the very bottom of the points table. Also, the club will not be able to retain ISL status in the 2027-28 season. They will again play in the Indian Football League that season.
New fight of ISL in new era
The ISL is about to enter a new club-based era. Home-away leagues, top-six playoffs and a longer eight-month schedule—all in all, are changing the face of the tournament in the 2026-27 season. In addition to the Shield, the ISL Cup will also be fiercely contested in this match, which will start from October 10.
