This season is already shaping up to be the story of Alexander Isak’s comeback.
Liverpool’s record signing has put behind him a first campaign that was dominated by his huge transfer fee, an inconsistent start and injury problems, all of which had placed him firmly under pressure heading into this term.
However, Isak has now already equalled his return of three Premier League goals from his first 12 months at Anfield after scoring twice early in the Reds’ meeting with Ipswich Town.
Combining superbly with an in-form Cody Gakpo for both goals, the Sweden international wasted little time as he struck a brace inside just nine minutes at Portman Road.
In doing so, he also earned a place in a slice of history for Liverpool by registering the club’s earliest two-goal haul in a Premier League match since Maxi Rodríguez punished Fulham in May 2011.
The Argentine winger went on to become a true cult hero during his spell with the Reds, and Isak will hope his own contributions can soon bring him similar admiration from the supporters.
