Instead of merely securing a job or remaining confined to their current roles, women are increasingly turning to structured and accredited professional programs to advance their careers.

A significant shift is being observed in the preferences of women in India regarding professional learning and skill upgrading. Rather than just landing a job or staying within the limits of their existing roles, women are opting for structured and accredited professional programs to propel their careers forward. Their growing participation in sectors such as healthcare, human resources, leadership, finance, technology, and project management exemplifies this trend.

According to a report, women account for 28 percent of the total program applications on the platform. Notably, women are showing greater interest in fields that directly involve people and organizations. At the same time, they are also keen on enhancing their capabilities through professional learning in areas like finance, technology, and strategy.

The report highlights Human Resource (HR) management as a top choice for women, with a 62 percent share of total program applications in this sector. This indicates a clear majority of women among applicants for HR-related programs. The role of HR has evolved beyond mere administrative tasks; it has expanded to encompass areas such as talent management, organizational culture, and strategy.

Healthcare management is another key area favored by women, accounting for 47 percent of total program applications. This trend emerges at a time when the demand for management and professional roles within the healthcare sector is on the rise.

Women's participation is not limited to HR and healthcare alone. According to the report, women make up 32 percent of applicants for leadership and strategy programs. This suggests that women are not merely focusing on acquiring domain-specific knowledge to advance their careers but are also keen to strengthen their capabilities in leadership and strategic management. Similarly, women's participation is becoming evident in sectors such as finance and technology; women account for 28 percent of applications for programs in these fields. Historically, female representation in these sectors has been imbalanced, making the rise in women's presence—facilitated by professional learning—a significant trend.

Furthermore, the goal of enhancing women's economic participation in India is gaining increasing clarity. The Union Budget 2025-26 emphasizes 'women-led development' as part of the broader vision for a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India) and sets a target to integrate women into economic activities by 2047.
