Continuous rain over the past two weeks has disrupted normal life in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district. The Nahan-Shri Renukaji road near Nehli remained closed for the fourth consecutive day, forcing vehicles to take alternative routes and travel an additional 30 to 40 kilometres to reach their destinations.
The road is anticipated to be clear by Monday, according to the Public Works Department. On the other hand, the Public Works Department and Jal Shakti Department incurred a loss of 4.4 crore due to a two-day-long torrential downpour.
15 Roads Closed Due To Landslides
On Saturday, 15 roads in the Nahan division of Sirmaur district remained closed due to landslides. The Public Works Department suffered losses of Rs 66 lakh due to heavy rain over the past two days.
Meanwhile, 39 irrigation and drinking water projects under the Sirmaur Jal Shakti Department were damaged during the same period.
Jal Shakti Department Suffers Rs 3.74 Crore Loss
The Jal Shakti Department has suffered losses of Rs 3.74 crore due to the rains. Thirteen drinking water projects and four irrigation projects in the Nahan division were damaged, while 15 drinking water projects and seven irrigation projects in the Nauhradhar division were disrupted.
Meanwhile, a man died on Friday evening after falling into a ravine near Koti Dhiman village. The deceased was identified as Jagdish Singh, son of Uday Singh, a resident of Koti Dhiman in Dadahu tehsil. Police conducted a post-mortem on Saturday and handed over the body to his family for cremation.
A total loss of about Rs 1235.44 crore has occurred in Himachal Pradesh due to natural calamities, ranging from damage to public assets, infrastructure, PWD, Jaland Shakti Dept, to private property, from June 30 to September 2. Around 108 casualties have occurred due to various natural calamities, with road accidents being responsible for 158 deaths.
