Trabzonspor’s attempt to sign Richarlison did not go through before the Super Lig transfer window shut on Friday night.

Richarlison is running short of time to secure a new club after failing to complete a transfer from Tottenham to Trabzonspor before the Turkish deadline.

The Brazil striker has been strongly linked with an exit from the club throughout the summer, and Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that the player has asked to leave.

However, his options are narrowing rapidly after he was omitted from Spurs’ Premier League squad.

Everton were among the clubs reported to be interested in him, but no deal was completed before Tuesday night’s transfer deadline.

Trabzonspor then appeared as a possible destination, but once again a transfer failed to happen before the Turkish window closed on Friday evening.

That leaves Richarlison in a difficult position, unable to play for Tottenham and with appealing alternatives now limited after the transfer windows in Scotland, Belgium and the Netherlands all shut.

So the obvious question is: where can the Brazilian go from here?

Unsurprisingly, Saudi Arabia now appears a realistic option. A regular flow of Premier League players past their peak has moved to the Middle East in recent seasons, and Richarlison is helped by the fact that the Saudi Pro League transfer window remains open until October 12.

A move to Portugal could also appeal to Richarlison, who is himself a native Portuguese speaker. Clubs in the Primeira Liga can still do business until September 15.

Major League Soccer is no longer available as an option — that window also closed on Tuesday — but he has until September 11 to negotiate a return to his home country of Brazil. The transfer window in Mexico closes on the same day.

It is still unclear what Tottenham will do with Richarlison if he is unable to secure a move, although reports from Talksport claim the club are considering ending his contract, which would allow the 29-year-old to leave as a free agent.

“Despite all this turmoil, I am under contract at Spurs and will remain at the club’s disposal,” Richarlison said in a statement last week.
