Tezzbuzz Desk- Heartburn, sour belching, flatulence or sour taste in the mouth after eating are common problems for many people. It may be normal to have acidity occasionally, but if this problem starts happening repeatedly then it should not be ignored.
Habits like irregular eating, too much fried or spicy food, excessive tea-coffee and lying down immediately after eating can increase acidity. In such a situation, instead of just taking medicine again and again, it is important to change your daily habits. Celebrity nutritionist Shweta Shah has given three easy remedies for relief from acidity, which can be included in the daily routine.
Start the day with raisins in the morning
In case of acidity, it is advised to eat 8 soaked raisins in the morning. Fiber and natural nutrients are found in raisins, which can help in keeping the digestion process better. However, every person's digestive system is different. If eating raisins increases gas or any other problem, then it is better to stop taking it.
Make a habit of chewing fennel seeds after meals
It is advised to take soaked fennel seeds after lunch and about one teaspoon of fennel seeds after dinner. Fennel has been used for digestive problems for a long time. It may help some people reduce bloating and discomfort after eating. However, it should not be considered a cure for acidity.
Also do Sheetali or Sheetkari Pranayam
To control acidity, not only eating habits, but also relaxation and breathing exercises can be made a part of the routine. Experts have advised to do Sheetali or Sheetkari Pranayam. Whichever technique you find comfortable can be practiced about 10 times before lunch and dinner. If you feel dizzy, have trouble breathing or feel uncomfortable while doing Pranayam, then you should stop it.
Do not lie down immediately after eating
In case of acidity, it is also important to avoid lying down immediately after eating food. Taking a light walk for about 10 minutes after meals can be helpful. Some people also like to sit in Vajrasana after meals. Along with this, one should avoid eating too much fried and spicy food, excessive tea-coffee and eating heavy food late at night.
When is it necessary to consult a doctor?
If acidity persists, requires frequent medication, has difficulty swallowing, persistent vomiting, weight loss without any reason or severe chest pain, then it is important to consult a doctor instead of relying on home remedies. Frequent acidity can sometimes be to GERD or some other digestive problem. Therefore, if symptoms persist for a long time, it is better to get the exact cause investigated.
