Patna. After continuous heavy rains, the formidable form of Punpun river in Bihar has put a halt to the Indian Railways. The water level of the river has crossed the danger mark and has reached the girder of bridge number 21 of Patna-Gaya railway section. Keeping in view the safety of passengers, Danapur Division of East Central Railway has completely suspended the operation of trains on the down line till further orders. Due to this emergency situation, 10 MEMU passenger trains have been cancelled, while the routes of many long distance express trains have been changed.

Increased trouble for passengers

Let us tell you that in view of the increasing water pressure on the tracks, the Railway Administration has decided to cancel most of the local passenger services running between Patna and Gaya. The canceled trains mainly include Patna-Gaya and Gaya-Patna MEMU Passengers (train numbers: 63242, 63244, 63245, 63247, 63248, 63251, 63256, 63274, 63250 and 63253). Apart from this, operation of some MEMU passenger trains running on Patna to Rajgir route has also been stopped.

Due to the Patna-Gaya main route being affected, many express trains are being sent to their destinations through alternative routes instead of their scheduled routes. Purnia Court Hatia Express is now being run via Bakhtiyarpur and Kiul instead of Patna-Gaya route. Dhanbad-Patna Express is being brought to Patna via Bandhua, Tilaiya, Islampur and Fatuha. Banaras – Rajgir Express has been diverted towards Patna via DDU, Buxar and Arrah.

Operating from single line, Railways created control room

Due to the closure of the down track, at present trains are being moved only through the UP line. In view of the water pressure on the bridge, the speed of trains has been slowed down, due to which almost all the trains on this route are running much behind their scheduled time. According to Danapur Railway Division officials, a special control war room has been activated to monitor the situation. Railway's engineering team is monitoring the water level of bridge number-21 and Punpun river 24 hours. Also, officials say that the operation of trains will be normal only after the water level decreases and 'Certificate of Safety' is received from the technical team. Apart from this, passengers have been advised to check the live status of their train on Rail Madad helpline 139 before reaching the station.
