Tetris Copyright: On September 3, 2026, the US government took to its official X page to announce the launch of its new Arcade service. This is an online service that allows American citizens and others to play a total of five arcade games that align with the government’s objectives.

At first glance, some of these games are quite familiar and will remind first-time viewers of certain arcade games we grew up playing. The first game on the list, Flappy Bill, will instantly remind you of Flappy Duck; Build The Wall will remind you of Tetris, and Rio Run will remind you of the iconic snake game.

While this was all fun and jokes for the US government, a ton of backlash regarding these games flooded the internet, prompting Tetris to make a statement. A few hours after the White House released its Arcade game service, Tetris took to its X page to make a public statement saying, “The Tetris Company was not involved in the creation of ‘Build the Wall’.”

Tetris Makes Claim Of Copyright Infringement

The US government’s Build the Wall Arcade game, just like its name suggests, involves building a wall to prevent illegal entry from the US southern border. If you are a geography geek, own a map, or are familiar with recent political happenings, then you are aware that the US shares its southern border with Mexico.

For context, the US started fencing its southern border in 1994, a move that sparked condemnation from not only Mexico but also various human rights organizations. Efforts to build this fence were heightened in 2016 with the elections that produced Donald Trump as the President of the US.

The building of the fence was further slowed down during Joe Biden’s administration that took power in 2020. However, with the Trump administration’s return to power in 2024, the project continued drawing criticism from millions.

The Build The Wall arcade game promotes the idea of fencing the US southern border. Considering that this is a sensitive topic, Tetris came out to publicly distance itself from the US government regarding its new Build A Wall Arcade game.

Tetris Copyright Infringement: Claims Of Infringement

In its public statement, Tetris said it “believes in the power of connection and bringing people together, not dividing them.” This statement outrightly condemns said efforts by the US to promote division by encouraging citizens to play an arcade game that highlights efforts to build a wall at its southern border.

Tetris went on to say that it takes copyright infringement very seriously. By pointing out the issue of infringement, Tetris might be accusing the US government of using its game idea to promote its political agenda.

At this time, we aren’t sure if Tetris has moved to take any legal action regarding this said ‘infringement’. However, the comments under Tetris’s post were filled with netizens tying its existence to a stolen idea and others pointing out that Tetris gameplay isn’t covered under copyright.

The US government hasn’t given any official attention to the claims of infringement made by Tetris in its post. Other brands like Sega, Xbox, PlayStationand Pac-Man also had the likeness of their old logos or loading pages used for the promotion of the arrival of the White House Arcade games.
