Health Desk. It is natural for changes to occur in the body with increasing age. After the age of 50, it becomes more important than ever to maintain muscle strength, energy and stamina. The good thing is that by changing some daily habits the body can be kept active and strong for a long time. For this, instead of expensive supplements or difficult routines, attention should be paid to regular exercise, right eating habits and adequate rest.

1. Walk for a while every day

Walking at a brisk pace is an easy way to keep the body active. Walking daily as per your capacity can help in maintaining fitness. Instead of sitting continuously for a long time, walking for a few minutes in between is a better habit.

2. Include protein in your diet

It is important to keep muscles strong as we age. For this, protein foods like pulses, gram, kidney beans, cheese, milk-curd, eggs and fish can be included in the diet. Keep your food balanced and avoid eating excessive fried food.

3. Do strength exercises

Walking alone is not enough. According to your ability and health, it can be beneficial to include light strength training, yoga or body-weight exercises in your routine. Start slowly and seek expert advice if needed.

4. Don't ignore sleep

Adequate sleep is necessary for the body to recover. Make a habit of sleeping and waking up at approximately the same time every day. Reducing the habit of looking at mobile phones or screens late at night can also be helpful for sleep quality.

5. Keep stress low and stay active

Chronic stress can affect both the body and mind. Spending time with family, participating in favorite activities, meditating or doing yoga can help reduce stress. Besides, it is also important to keep getting regular health checkups done.
