Tech Layoffs: The tech job market is currently going through a phase of extreme volatility and disruption. Prominent technology companies around the world are investing billions of dollars in AI, forcing them to restructure their teams and cut costs. Due to this technological change human resources are having the worst impact. According to the latest statistics from Layoffs.fyi, 296 tech companies have laid off 129,488 employees so far in 2026. Now in this alarming wave of global layoffs Apple, Uber, Oracle And the names of giant companies like PayPal have also joined.
In September alone, Apple laid off more than 200 employees from its Siri, Vision Pro and software divisions, Bloomberg reported. As part of this decision, about 100 employees have been removed from the Vision Pro organization and another 100 employees from Siri and Intelligent Systems Experience Group. Apple has nearly shut down its gaming division, while drastically reducing immersive video operations in Vision Pro. The company is now building Siri on a new AI architecture, for which a team with the latest skills is being prepared.
Uber announces 3,300 layoffs
Uber, the leading company in the ride-hailing sector, announced its major internal plans at the end of August. The company is going to eliminate about 10 percent of its global workforce, or about 3,300 jobs. This is the biggest layoff by Uber since the Covid-19 pandemic. Company CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in an internal message to employees that teams are being streamlined by removing additional layers of management. The company will use the funds left over from these layoffs to develop future technologies such as autonomous vehicles and AI.
PayPal Cuts Indian Workforce
Digital payments leader PayPal has also cut headcount from its India-based offices as part of its global restructuring. Initial reports suggested up to 600 employees in India were expected to be affected, but the company later clarified that as of August 31, 220 employees (about 4 percent) of the Indian team were affected. According to PayPal, the move is part of their multi-year business transformation process, which aims to make the company’s global operations more streamlined and stable for the long term.
Preparation of up to 10,000 new layoffs by Oracle
Oracle is currently planning another major round of layoffs, reports have emerged. According to media reports, 7,000 to 10,000 employees from the company’s global workforce may be affected this time. Oracle had already laid off 21,000 employees during the 12-month period ending May 2026, reducing its total workforce to 141,000. As the company is currently spending heavily on cloud infrastructure and AI technology, it is taking these drastic decisions to cut its operating costs.
