Indian archers performed brilliantly on Tuesday, a day before the conclusion of the Para Archery World Series, winning 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. The men's compound and recurve teams won gold medals, while Swati Chaudhary won two medals in a single day.
The men's compound pair of current world champion Toman Kumar and Shyam Sundar Swamy won the gold medal by defeating Iraq 152-139. Whereas the recurve pair of two-time Paralympic medal winners Harvinder Singh and Vijay Sundi defeated Slovakia 6-2 and secured the top position. In the women's recurve team, Bhavana and Pooja had to be satisfied with the silver medal.
Bhavana and Pooja lost to the Chinese pair
The Indian pair lost 0-6 (23-34, 33-35, 30-31) to China in the final. Swati Chaudhary and Adil Mohammad Nazir Ansari won the silver medal in the mixed team W-1 (recurve/compound) event. After this, Swati also won the bronze medal in the individual W-1 category in the afternoon session. She defeated Elena Krutova of Russia, playing under the Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN) flag, 6-2. In this way Swati won both silver and bronze medals in a single day.
Swamy and Toman won the gold medal in the men's compound team event by defeating Iraq's Abbas Kadhim and Anwar Aldavoud in the final. The Indian pair had a slow start but soon found their rhythm and had no problems in registering the win. Harvinder and Sundi made a brilliant comeback after falling behind in the first set to defeat Slovakia's David Ivan and Dennis Ivan 6-2 (34-37, 36-31, 38-34, 35-31).
India missed out on bronze in this event
India missed out on the bronze medal in the women's compound team event. Sheetal Devi and Payal Nag lost to China's Wang Huiting and Gao Fangxia in the third-place playoff. Chinese archers won the match 6-0 (34-23, 35-33, 31-30) and won the bronze medal.
Swati and Adil Mohammad Nazir Ansari lost 1-5 (31-38, 33-37, 33-33) to Czech Republic's Sharka Pultar Musilova and David Drahoninsky in the mixed team W-1 (recurve/compound) final. The W-1 Recurve/Compound category is a special category for para archers with severe physical disabilities. Players in this category shoot from a wheelbarrow and can use a recurve or compound bow in the same event.
