New Delhi. Seven people were killed when a PG hostel building collapsed in South Delhi's Satya Niketan area. After which there has been a stir in the political and administrative corridors of Delhi. Taking a tough stand on this tragic accident, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has issued strict orders to the Municipal Corporation to immediately run bulldozers and take sealing action on illegal buildings across Delhi. It is clear from the harsh attitude of the Chief Minister that this time the blame will fall not only on the landlords but also on the government machinery involved in corruption.

'The illegal building was built during which officer's reign?'
CM's direct question – Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has instructed the top officials of MCD to scrutinize the old records of collapsed and other illegal buildings. CM has raised the question that in which year and during the tenure of which officer did this illegal construction take place? He has made it clear that all the officers who patronized or ignored these illegal constructions during their time will be identified and strictest action will be taken against them.
Plan for large scale bulldozing and sealing action in Delhi
After this accident, the Chief Minister has instructed the Delhi Municipal Corporation to take some major strict steps. All senior officers of MCD will themselves have to monitor this bulldozer action and sealing campaign by staying in the field. Along with this, orders have been given to immediately seal the fifth floors of the buildings constructed in Delhi by disregarding the rules. Apart from this, all the dangerous and dilapidated buildings of Delhi will be immediately audited and demolished, so that an incident like Satya Niketan does not happen again. The Chief Minister has ordered intensive inspection of all PGs and student hostels across Delhi. Immediate action will be taken against all hostels violating safety standards and building bylaws.

Five big officials were punished, immediately suspended
Taking action immediately after this tragic accident, the Chief Minister has suspended five senior officials of South Zone MCD with immediate effect. The officers to be suspended include Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent Engineer (SE), Executive Engineer (EE), Assistant Engineer (AE), Junior Engineer (JE). The Chief Minister has made it clear that the landlord doing illegal digging in the basement and any negligent government employee will not be spared at any cost. Also, Delhi government is adopting a policy of zero tolerance in this matter.
