Business Desk – 8th Pay Commission Meeting Today: The series of meetings of the 8th Pay Commission is continuing. After the meeting in Chennai on 7th and 8th September, now the meeting is going to be held in Puducherry from today i.e. 9th September. In this, representatives of employee organizations and pensioners will present their demands before the commission.
However, no separate agenda has been fixed for the Puducherry meeting. Only the issues and demands mentioned in the memorandum given earlier by the organizations are likely to be discussed. The most important issue during this time may be the Fitment Factor.
Where will the meetings of the 8th Pay Commission be held?
On behalf of the Commission, a series of talks are going on with employee organizations and pensioners in different states and union territories. The schedule till October has just been revealed.
Puducherry: Meeting from September 9
Chandigarh: Meeting on 16 and 18 September
Bengaluru: Meeting on 7 and 8 October
Mumbai: Meeting likely to be held in September or October
The objective of these meetings is to understand the demands of the employees and pensioners and to incorporate their suggestions in the process of the Commission.
Why is the fitment factor most important?
Central employees and pensioners have been demanding Fitment Factor Hike for a long time. Due to increase in fitment factor, there will be change in the basic pay of the employees and it may affect other parts of the salary also. Apart from this, employee organizations are also raising demands like increasing HRA i.e. House Rent Allowance and Transport Allowance. However, it is not yet decided what recommendation the commission will make on these demands in its final report.
When will the 8th Pay Commission report come?
Employees and pensioners are now waiting for the report of the commission. According to the government, the members of the commission can submit the report by May 3, 2026. After the report comes, the government will review it and after that the final decision will be taken on changes in salary and pension including fitment factor. Therefore, at present it is not clear to the employees as to what will be the Fitment Factor and on what basis the new salary will be calculated.
Can you get benefits from January 2026?
Regarding the Eighth Pay Commission, it is expected that after its implementation, employees and pensioners can get the benefit of salary and pension hike from January 2026. However, the final decision will be clear only after the approval of the government and the recommendations of the commission.
The government has also told the commission that it does not need to give separate information to the government about its every progress or update.
The process has been going on for about 10 months
It is going to take about 10 months for the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission. Since then, a series of meetings are going on in different states and union territories. So far, the schedule of meetings till October has been revealed.
Employees and pensioners are now keeping an eye on the demands put forward in these meetings and the further recommendations of the Commission. Especially issues like Fitment Factor, Basic Salary, HRA, Transport Allowance and Pension Revision are the most discussed.
