In rural areas, a total of 170,812 people were literate, comprising 99,574 men and 71,238 women. In contrast, the educational landscape in urban areas appears quite different. Only 7.83 percent of the district's population resides in urban areas. Out of an urban population of 57,074, 38,942 people were literate. The urban literacy rate stood at 80.05 percent, with male literacy recorded at 86.48 percent and female literacy at 73.43 percent.
The district's data also reveals a significant gap between male and female literacy rates. Across the district, the male literacy rate was 40.02 percent, while the female literacy rate was 30.29 percent. This disparity is even more pronounced in rural areas, where male literacy was 37.85 percent and female literacy was 26.45 percent. Male literacy also exceeded female literacy in urban areas, although the figures for both were far superior to those in rural areas.
In 2011, the population of Alirajpur was 728,999, comprising 362,542 men and 366,457 women. The district's population in 2001 was 610,275, marking a population increase of 19.45 percent during this period. According to census data, the district covers an area of 3,182 square kilometers, and the population density in 2011 was 229 persons per square kilometer. Rural areas accounted for the majority of the district's population, while the urban population stood at 7.83 percent.
