Parineeti Chopra opened up about pregnancy, motherhood and working on her upcoming Netflix series Shaque: Trust No One during the show’s trailer launch in Mumbai. The actor revealed that the makers were supportive and flexible after she found out she was pregnant while shooting for the series.
Parineeti was asked whether her approach to the show, which revolves around a mother searching for her child, would have been different if she had known about her pregnancy beforehand.
“That’s a great question. To answer your question, maybe. I know there’s been a lot of debate in the industry about women being mothers and how that impacts projects. So, I do want to answer this question responsibly,” she said.
The actor stressed that there should not be a fixed rule when it comes to pregnancy and motherhood for working actors. “Women actors are ‘women humans’. I don’t know if that makes sense! But I can’t wait for myself to retire at 50, 60 or 70 and then get pregnant, right? So, it’s always going to happen when I am working,” she said.
According to Parineeti, open communication between actors and makers is the best way to handle such situations. She explained that every project comes with different requirements and that solutions should be worked out on a case-by-case basis.
“In my case, I was able to have that conversation with the makers and figure out a solution, so that the project didn’t get compromised,” she added.
Parineeti also credited the team for making the experience easier. “In my case, I was very lucky. The makers were very flexible and understanding. They worked with my schedules,” she said.
She added that she also pushed herself to complete the project while working within her circumstances. “We used to have a conversation about everything – what we can do, what we can’t, what the hours are, what the travel is – everything. That’s how we could have a positive experience.”

Shaque: Trust No One will premiere on Netflix on September 24.
